Eight-year-old Rachel loves the movie Soul Surfer, exploring outside and the color blue. Her love of life and dream of learning to surf helped her decide on a wish to visit Hawaii. In early February of 2014, Rachel and her family (including her 4 siblings) left cold Nebraska for the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. From the moment Rachel stepped onto the plane she was treated like a princess, enjoying ice cream sundaes on the plane, greeted with a Hawaiian lei at the airport, and forgetting all about her Cystic Fibrosis. On the first day of her trip she spent the day playing in the ocean followed by an afternoon of kayaking. The next day was her big day - she would learn how to surf. Surfing lessons took place in the rain but the added weather didn't bother Rachel, by the end of the day she was surfing! The next 5 days were filled with more ocean fun, a tour of Pearl Harbor, parasailing, boogie board fun and of course more surfing! The young girl who once watched the waves from the comfort of her couch was now her very own "soul surfer".
A very special thanks to Jewelers for Children who sponsored Rachel's wish to go to Hawaii!
