Welcome to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Nebraska, a volunteer-driven organization.  Because hundreds of volunteers donate their time and talents, over 100 children in Nebraska will receive their wishes this year.

You Can Volunteer
Creative, dedicated, and resourceful volunteers are what make the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Nebraska successful. Volunteers serve on the Board of Directors, are speakers, grant wishes, organize fund raisers, promote the organization, and plan events and celebrations for the wish families.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, you may call us at 402-333-8999 or 800-760-9474 or click here. Volunteers are the foundation of our organization and we are always in need for many different positions.

General Office/Clerical
Our Chapter Office has openings Monday through Friday for a person to maintain files, update scrapbooks, write thank you notes, answer the phone and assemble packets of information. You can tailor the hours to fit your schedule.

That friendly voice on the phone is often from a volunteer, like

Joyce

or

Helen

Hotel Room Decorators

For families traveling or staying in hotel rooms, nothing says “Welcome!” more than a room that has treats, signs, and balloons throughout. Individuals, families, and employee teams have a great time planning just the right decorations for our wish families. Most families stay overnight in Omaha for shopping spree wishes or before flying out of town for travel wishes.

Airport Greeters
Our wish families are very important and we want to make their wish experience as special as possible. Greeters are present when the family leaves to give them a great send-off and also greet them on their return to welcome them back to Nebraska.
Airport greeters, Bertie and Jody, make sure that wish child, Kim, gets off on a flying start for her wish to visit Walt Disney World® Resort.

Wish Memory Albums
Each child receives a photo record of his wish. We want to make this album as special as possible. If you are interested in helping preserve precious memories and like being creative, but want to volunteer from home, this is a great way to get involved.

make it a family affair.

Wish Granters
Wish Granters (minimum age 21) work directly with the wish child and his/her family to help determine, coordinate, and fulfill the child's wish. Wish Granters are required to attend a training session, undergo a criminal background check, and always work in pairs. Helping grant wishes for children can be emotional, yet very rewarding.

Wish-granting volunteers, Glenn and Nancy, helped to make Micaela’s wish for a clavinova a surprise after her school’s concert.
Volunteers, Lisa and Pat, met Holly and her family upon their return from Holly’s Disney Cruise wish.

Special Events
These are the "one shot deals" that happen to come up throughout the year. You might be marching in a parade, staffing an information table, or helping with a golf tournament, to name a few of the endless possibilities.

Speakers Bureau
If you like to speak to groups and share special stories, please consider becoming a member of the Speakers Bureau. Members speak on behalf of the foundation to businesses, professional and civic   organizations, and schools. Training is available and  required.

Andy Kroeger, past wish child, speaks at many events for Make-A-Wish.

Special Skills
If you speak a second language or have other special abilities, please give us a call.

Orientation
Volunteer Orientation will take place at the chapter office and is required before going through Wish-granting Training or Airport Greeter Training. It will last approximately one hour to learn more about the Make-A-Wish Foundation and volunteer opportunities. If you live outside the Omaha area, please call the Coordinator of Volunteers.
